Reiwa no Dara-san
Clouds blacken the sky and sheets of rain turn the mountain forest into a treacherous maze. A landslide crushes a razor wire fence and buries a “NO TRESPASSING” sign. As two young siblings venture into a dark world to which they do not belong, a long, horrid shadow rears up to meet them, and “Look, I’m a malevolent deity, okay?! Aren’t you kids gonna freak out about my monstrous visage?!” Anyway, so that’s how we met Dara-san! She might look kinda scary, but just wait until you get to know her!
Les nuages obscurcissent le ciel et des trombes d'eau transforment la forêt de montagne en un labyrinthe périlleux. Un glissement de terrain emporte une clôture de barbelés et ensevelit un panneau « Défense d'entrer ». Alors que deux jeunes frères et sœurs s'aventurent dans un monde sombre qui n'est pas le leur, une longue et terrifiante ombre se dresse devant eux : « Écoutez, je suis une divinité maléfique, d'accord ?! Tu vas pas avoir peur de mon apparence monstrueuse ?!Bref, c'est comme ça qu'on a rencontré Dara-san ! Elle a peut-être l'air un peu effrayante, mais attends de la connaître !

This makes for a fun bait and switch type of comedy, where the kids are not as afraid of the yokai as they probably should be.
At the same time, the backstory segments take a surprisingly dark turn, as our yokai was abused in the past.
A fun comedy, but also an intense horror/bullying story at times.

Metal-jpop mashup opening track, setting the scene for the show's "(retired? Matured?) monster makes friends with modern kids" premise. Interesting subversion of expectations with the two kids dressing in reverse, explained as a family tradition for temple guardian to fool spirits. Nice closing theme.

The "who are you" and "who am I" conversations between the cross-dressing kids and the immortal topless snake-lady seem like they might just keep coming indefinitely. It's the perfect low-key culture class between the mythic past and the mundane present.

Grotesque but funny as hell. How does an evil spirit adjust to modern day Japan? Some ways I found the kids more disturbing than Dara-san herself.
