Fairly standard, but not bad. I like the idea that the role of magical girls is public knowledge, has passed from news to recent history -- and is now poised to become news again.

This show is a bit of a mess. We have a magical girl that helped save the world during a bloody war, trying to get back to a normal life, suddenly thrust back into a life of violence.

I am not entirely sure what they are going for here. For one, it is nice to see a departure from the traditional cute girls save the world with love kind of trope, but on the other hand, at times it feels like they go a bit too far the other way. You get scenes of normal school activity, like running in the track club, followed up by scenes of extreme violence where people are eviscerated.

The best way i can describe it is "tone whiplash". I'm not sure i can recommend this one - you have to like fun high school life comedies and Akira at the same time.

Militarized magical girls but what happens when the war is over. This is one twist on genre we haven't seen yet. Holds my interest.

humanbean

militarized magical girl with ptsd some time after the final boss battle. don't see this being too popular with liberals.
