Somewhere is a mysterious bar known as the Queen Dequim, where a lone bartender named Dequim works. Whenever two people emerge from the bar's elevators, those two must participate in a Death Game with their lives on the line, the results of which will reveal what secrets led them there and what their fate will be afterwards.

Reviews

Michael Eh?

Must admit I was expecting as much to see the same as Death Billiards but the background story and characters are good even though the opening is as hokey as it can get.

Jason

The follow-up or re-imagining of the Death Billiards short from Anime Mirai 2013, Death Parade is set up as a view to the path to the afterlife in a similar vein as Jigoku Shoujo but those who have died are pitted against each other in games of skill or chance to determine where their souls will wind up. Just like the short, the first episode of Death Parade puts as much focus on the psychology of the game's contestants as much as the strategies of the games themselves. While not a happy ride by any means this is probably the strongest premier for the Winter 2015 season and I can't wait to see what else we'll learn about Quindecim's denisons and visitors for the rest of the season.

March 8 edit: As of episode 9 of the series this still holds up as one of the best shows of the season and is one of three that I'm currently following and keeping up-to-date with (the others being Yuri Kuma Arashi and the Egypt arc of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
